6.5 Million LinkedIn passwords hacked

Millions of users’ passwords from the social media site LinkedIn have been leaked by hackers.

The hackers retrieved an encoded file which is estimated to contain passwords for over 6.5 million members.

The file was uploaded to a Russian hacking forum where the community has been asked to decipher the contents.

Experts say that although it doesn’t contain any names or email addresses it may be that the hackers have them elsewhere – and that all caution should be taken.

Users on Twitter have since confirmed that they have discovered their details hidden within the document.

Indications seem to show that the data is sometime before May 27th.

Affected users will find that they have to reset their passwords and will have been sent an email informing them of the breach.
